 Resources & Information

After reviewing the PFLAG website I was grateful to see their extensive Resources page. Instead of recreating a new list, I have added links to their pages with their permission. I also recently met the founder of The Queer South Asian Women's Network, and this organization "works to connect and visibilize gender-marginalized LGBTQ+ South Asians in the diaspora". Link to the side.

As for TV and movies there are so many amazing ones I have watched over the years. I was so happy to see on Disney + that they have a section called "Pride Collection". Check it out if you have access to this streaming network for various age appropriate options.

Alex Sangha is a south asian documentary film producer out of Vancouver and his current documentary, "Emergence: Out of the Shadows", can be viewed on Youtube TVO Docs channel. Three south asian families discuss openly and honestly how they dealt with their queer child's experience.

I am also thrilled to see many  south asian lgbtq artists making their mark, such as Rohan Dhupar, Bilal Baig, Vivek Shraya,  Kal Pen, Alok V Menon, Sue Aranha and Priyanka. I am aware of so many more, and with their permission I will share more about them in the future.

Fun fact: I had a very small background role in a movie that was filmed about 22 years ago by Iqbal Rashid titled "Touch of Pink". This movie shows that the south asian community has been talking openly about lgbtq issues much longer than people even think. Check it out:
